Citation: November 8, 2010 10:37 & 10:45 hours While performing an unscheduled preoperational inspection procedure in the processing and packaging departments, I observed the following: 1. Flaking white paint on the motor housing of bone saw #2, a non-food contact surface, in the processing room. I rejected the saw by affixing the Food Safety and Inspection Service's Form 6502-1 #B39718920. 2. Dust, unidentifiable material, and small remnants of poultry fat and meat soiling the stainless steel surfaces of the conveyor belt in the tray pack room, all non-food contact surfaces. I rejected the conveyor belt by affixing the Food Safety and Inspection Service's Form 6502-1 #B39718919. This is a failure to comply with the United States Code of Federal Regulations, Title 9, Chapter III, Section 416.4(b). Mr. [redacted] was promptly notified of the noncompliances verbally. After a review of the plant's preoperational inspection records at 10:25 hours, I observed that a preoperational inspection had been performed of the processing and packaging departments at 10:00 hours. The procedures were marked as completed and accompanied by Mr. [redacted] initials. As this was a preoperational inspection, no product was involved. This document serves as written notification that failure to comply with regulatory requirements may result in additional regulatory and/or administrative action(s). Past Similar NRs - Previous Ineffective Plant Actions: Inadequate cleaning of a direct food contact surface not addressed during the establishment's preoperational inspection NR: 85-2010 dated 11/24/2010
Regulation:
416.4(b) Non-food-contact surfaces of facilities, equipment, and utensils used in the operation of the establishment must be cleaned and sanitized as frequently as necessary to prevent the creation of insanitary conditions and the adulteration of product.
