Putting Glass Walls on New York's Slaughterhouses So We Can See Behind Closed Doors
Hudson Valley Foie Gras

Address: 80 Brooks Rd, Ferndale, NY 12734
Establishment No.: p17966

USDA Inspection Report: 29 Jun 2010

Code: 06D01
Violation:  416.2(b)(1)

Citation: At 1315 hours on this date, I was in the small duck slaughter kill room observing poultry for humane slaughter activities. I noticed a hole in the bottom portion of the wall located adjacent to the entrance door for the room. The hole is triangular in shape and extends about one foot in length. While trying to close the door upon leaving the area I noticed that the door was off the guide bar and could not be shut completely. The area where the non-compliance was noted is away from the product zone and no product is affected. I notified Plant Manager at 1400 hours on this date that 9CFR 416.2(b)(1) is not being met in this area. 416.2(b)(1) states that "establishment buildings, including their structures, rooms and compartments must be of sound construction, be kept in good repair and be of sufficient size to allow for processing, handling and storage of product in a manner that does not result in product adulteration or creation of insanitary conditions." Continued failure to meet these regulatory requirements could result in additional regulatory or administrative action.

Regulation:

416.2(b)(1) Establishment buildings, including their structures, rooms, and compartments must be of sound construction, be kept in good repair, and be of sufficient size to allow for processing, handling, and storage of product in a manner that does not result in product adulteration or the creation of insanitary conditions.
