Citation: At approximately 0815 while observing the humane handling of animals with Dr. and Dr. the following noncompliance was found with the animal holding pens. Pen Number 1 and 2 have a board between them that appears to be broken and no longer supporting the separation between the two pens. US retain/reject tags B39600603 and B39600604 were applied to the doors of both pens. This is a violation of 9 CFR 313.1 which states " Livestock pens, driveways and ramps shall be maintained in good repair. They shall be free from sharp or protruding objects which may, in the opinion of the inspector, cause injury or pain to the animals. Loose boards, splintered or broken planking, and unnecessary openings where the head, feet, or legs of an animal may be injured shall be repaired." No animals were observed in these pens at the time. Mr. was informed of this noncompliance and that failure to follow the regulations can result in further regulatory control action.
Regulation:
313.1(a) Livestock pens, driveways and ramps shall be maintained in good repair. They shall be free from sharp or protruding objects which may, in the opinion of the inspector, cause injury or pain to the animals. Loose boards, splintered or broken planking, and unnecessary openings where the head, feet, or legs of an animal may be injured shall be repaired.
