Establishment No.: m4499

USDA Inspection Report: 19 Aug 2010

Code: 04C02
Violation: 313.1

Citation: At 0840 while observing the humane handling of animals during ante mortem, I observed the following noncompliance in regards to the animal holding pens. Pen # 3, the swing door located on the alley side leading to the slaughter floor is not attached to the hinge, the door is tied closed with bailing twine. This is allowing the hinge which is approximately 3 inches wide and 8 inches long to swing freely. No animals were observed scraping the hinge but it is a potential hazard which could cause undue harm or stress to the animals.US retain/Reject tag #B39600648 was applied to the pen # 3. This is a failure to follow 313.1(a) of the regulations which state :(a) Livestock pens, driveways and ramps shall be maintained in good repair. They shall be free from sharp or protruding objects which may, in the opinion of the inspector, cause injury or pain to the animals. Mr. was informed of this noncompliance, and that failure to follow the regulations could result in further regulatory control actions.

Regulation:

313.1 Livestock pens, driveways and ramps shall be maintained in good repair. They shall be free from sharp or protruding objects which may, in the opinion of the inspector, cause injury or pain to the animals. Loose boards, splintered or broken planking, and unnecessary openings where the head, feet, or legs of an animal may be injured shall be repaired.
